Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife, Nkechi joined their kinsmen today at Umuobiakwa for the burial of Chief Dr. Herbert Akotaobi.
Dr. Akotaobi, a very outstanding man was a Member of the Old Imo State House of Assembly between 1979 and 1983. In 1983, he was elected to represent the old Obioma Ngwa (now Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo) Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives in Lagos.
He was a very Aba based successful lawyer and a big uncle to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. An alumnus of the Howard University, USA where he studied Accountancy and later, law, Dr Akotaobi was the first notable politician from Umuobiakwa Community and one of the political pathfinders in Ngwaland.
Describing his death as the “end of an era”, a grief stricken Governor Ikpeazu described him as one of the brightest stars that ever graced this horizon. According to the Governor, Dr. Akotaobi was very ebullient and keen to offer service to his immediate community, state and country, stating that he was a consummate Law maker, an astute lawyer who loved and practiced his profession with great passion.
Judges of the High Court of Abia States, Hon. Justices Chinedu Adiele ,Teddy Eruba and Adiele were at the event.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly which held a Special Valedictory Session yesterday for the former late Assemblyman was represented by Hon Barrister A C Thomas Nkoro.
Leaders of the NBA Aba and the Association of Ngwa lawyers, Chief Theo Nkire and
Nnamdi Marcellus Ahunanya led members of the Bar to the event.
