Deputy Speaker Rivers State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison has responded to the protagonist of Biafra Independence Movement, BIM; and Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike says he stand with Wike, that Rivers first before him.

In his response to Mr Ralph Uwazuruike & Ors

An Executive ORDER issued by the GOVERNOR may require that certain actions be taken. Such an action has the force and effect of Law and further serves as the source of Authority for actions taken in response to the Order. It bears the same power as a Legislation.

Gov WIKE is legitimately empowered to enforce certain restrictions in other to preserve the common good, public health, safety, welfare and security of Rivers State.

Our individual rights sinks in the necessity to ensure the common good of Rivers people.
In the face of such deadly global pandemic CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19), that has defiled the expertise of world best health practitioners for months, the intention of Gov Wike is to understand the pattern of the deadly disease and put in place, proper planning and execution of remedial procedures.
Following Public Health threats, you cannot fault coercive measures introduced by Gov Wike to contain the spread of Covid-19 which is detrimental to our health, including temporal interference with our comfort and enjoyment of life.
Public Health threats know no boundaries, we cannot afford to be weak in our public health line of defence.
It is either we are all protected or we are all at risk.
In this situation, our individual rights, if fully exercised, puts us all at grave danger.

Public Health Security requires both pro-active and re-active actions to minimize vulnerability to acute public health danger of Rivers State.
The lack of measures to ensure collective public health security will negatively impact our economic/ political stability, including trade, tourism and access to good and services.

Lack of definite and decisive actions can erode government capacities and even undermine the people’s confidence and trust in the leadership of the ever bravely known Gov Wike.

If we can make laws for demolition of properties of kidnappers, criminals and those who harbour them, aiding and abating of criminals and their activities, laws prohibiting smoking, laws disbanding the use of motorcycles in urban areas, laws prohibiting drinking of alcohol, laws making immunization of children compulsory etc, irrespective of individual religious or ethnic belief, how much more a global unseen unpredictable pandemic which is cutting off life from both the young and old, rich and poor.

I STAND WITH GOVERNOR WIKE.
RIVERS FIRST BEFORE ME.

RT HON EHIE EDISON
DEPUTY SPEAKER
RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
