…Governor Nyesom Wike commended for his proactive measures in the fight against the spread of Corona Virus

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed into law, the Rivers State Security Trust Fund Bill 2020. The Bill was passed for 3rd reading on the floor of the House after presentation of report by the Ad-Hoc Committee Chairman, Hon. Christian Ahiakwo.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, DSSRS, KSC having opened the floor for debate by Members highlighted the purpose of the bill. According to Rt. Hon. Ibani, the overall objective of the bill is to strengthen the security architecture of Rivers State for efficient security of lives and properties. He maintained that the bill is apt because security concern is a global issue.

Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani reiterated the readiness of the House to always give necessary support to the Executive Arm in the fight against Corona Virus in the State. According to him, the House shall not shy away from its responsibilities as representatives of the people and law makers.

He enjoined everyone to at all times respect Covid-19 protocols which is now a new introduction into our culture.

Rt. Hon. Ibani thanked Members of the House for the way they have been conducting themselves so far.

An earnest commendation was given to His Excellency, Chief, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON. GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State for his proactive measures against COVID-19 pandemic. Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani stated that, but for the proactive actions of His Excellency, Gov. Wike, Rivers State would have been thrown into a dangerous health situation by now.

The House observed a minute silence in honour of some lawmakers who died in other States of the Federation as a result of COVID-19 complications.
