Nigerian returnees currently quarantining have slammed the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), accusing the centre of abandoning them in a mosquito-filled apartment.

In a video shared online they are alleging that the NCDC personnel have not visited, not bothered if they have eaten and how they are faring, since they were checked in.

A man is heard in the video stressing that one of the returnees who recently passed away and was wrongly thought to have been infected with COVID-19, was examined multiple times by doctors in Dubai and certified to fly with them.

The man maintained that the late returnee didn’t contract the virus.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, had later clarified that the late returnee didn’t die with the coronavirus.

“I hereby inform the general public that the Nigerian who recently returned from Dubai as part of a group of returnees who were placed in a #COVID19 isolation program in Lekki, developed complications and was transferred to one of our facilities where he died.

“Because of the sudden nature of his demise and without any prior knowledge of his multiple preexisting conditions it was presumed to be a #COVID19 related death.”

“This presumptive attribution is a precaution to ensure the safe clinical management of the patient and subsequent handling of the corpse.

“The definitive #COVID19 gold standard test has turned out to be negative for the #COVID19 infection and his death is no longer considered to have been attributable to #COVID19,” Abayomi said on Twitter.
