Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State Governor has revealed why he did not openly address the End SARS protesters that converged at the main entrance of the Government House, Umuahia during the heat of protest.

Speaking at a radio programme monitored in Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, dismissed fears of being attacked by the protesters, stating that he was on official assignment as at the time the End SARS protesters besieged the gate of the State Government house.

Ikpeazu said his administration had inaugurated judicial panels of Inquiry to address the demands of the protesters, disclosing that the panel peopled with men of proven integrity, would make recommendations and appropriate action would be taken by the government to halt youth unemployment and restiveness.

He said, ”there are rules of engagement. The Governor was not around as at the time the protesters besieged the Government House. There is no cause for alarm, the government has taken proactive steps in search of solution to the demands of the protesters.

“The present administration has recorded tremendous successes in the empowerment of Abia youths. We have been able to minimize the rate of unemployment through people’s oriented policies of the government ranging from Agriculture, Education and promotion of Small and Medium scale Enterprises businesses. They are too numerous to mention”.
