Again, Abia Speaker Honoured: ‘He has Restored Hope to Abia Students and Youths” – Medical Students

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has received yet another Award for his leadership qualities that have seen him use the instrumentalities of the legislature to advance the cause of students and youths in Abia State.

This time, the Award of Excellence to the Speaker came from the Union of Abia State Medical Students who honoured him for “his undying love for Abia students in particular and the youths in general” saying that his emergence as Speaker “has restored hope to students and youths of Abia origin at various institutions of higher learning, hence, the Excellence Award”.

The Award was presented to the Speaker today during the Scientific Conference on the Control of Infectious Diseases in Nigeria organised by the student body at Binez Hotel, Aba.

While appreciating the students for the honour done him, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, represented by the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu thanked the students for the Award saying it will surely spur him to greater action.

“This Award is an indication that you are closely following proceedings at the 7th Abia State House of Assembly where we have indeed protected you and promoted your cause, and we shall continue to do so”, the Speaker said.

He urged them to take their education seriously as the sky will only be their limit if they do so “especially in our today’s world where we are grappling with the dreaded Covid-19 and other related health issues.

“We look up to your generation for solution, and I’m sure you will not disappoint us”, he said, admonishing them to shun cultism, drug abuse, thuggery and other related vices so that “you don’t truncate your studies and ruin your future therreby but always be good ambassadors of your families, the state and the nation as a whole wherever you find yourselves”.

The Speaker promised to keep supporting the students in their educational pursuits.

Recall that the 7th Abia State House of Assembly had at different times successfuly intervened in issues affecting students at ABSU, ABIAPOLY, ASCETA etc.

Present at the Conference were the State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Abia State Chapter, Dr Chimezie Okwuonu who was also Chairman of the occasion, the Chief Medical Director of ABSUTH, Dr Offia Awa, medical personnel and students.
