Ahead of today’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho, Alex Iwobi has tested negative for COVID-19 according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Everton midfielder’s positive result became a subject of controversy, as he was forced to miss Saturday’s 1-0 win at Benin Republic.

Iwobi was replaced by Galatasaray’s Henry Onyekuru for the game.

However, the NFF, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, confirmed that further tests carried out on the player returned negative.

“Update: @NGSuperEagles forward, @alexiwobi has tested negative after further COVID-19 tests were conducted,” the tweet read.

It is, however, not certain if Iwobi will play any part against Lesotho.
