The Bayelsa State government has announced plans to re-launch its quick response security outfit, “Operation Doo Akpo”.

Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo disclosed this to traditional rulers from Yenagoa Local Government Area at a meeting at the Government House.

He urged the monarchs to take charge of security in their domains and assured the people of a more secured environment.

Ewhrudjakpo said Operation Doo Akpo would be better equipped and also draw its personnel from all uniformed security agencies in the state.

”It will be back to its usual capacity of responding to distress calls promptly as they are currently being equipped.”

On maritime security, Ewhrudjakpo disclosed that the executive will work with the House of Assembly to get a law on maritime curfew.

“No speed boat will move at 7pm, except on special duty. We will then activate the Marine Police”, he added.

He further explained that youths in the communities would also be involved in the security arrangement with the collaboration of traditional rulers and the community development committees to prevent criminals from infiltrating villages to perpetrate crime.
