Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has claimed that “damage” has been done between the ‘top six’ clubs and the 14 other Premier League teams, as the proposed European Super League falls apart.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have all pulled out of the breakaway competition, in less than 48hours since they announced they were part of it. https://dailypost.ng/2021/04/21/arsenal-chelsea-man-utd-others-pull-out-of-european-super-league/
The ‘top six’ had been threatened by the UEFA and the Premier League, as they forged ahead with their plans for the Super League.
With their u-turn, Wenger feels something has already been broken.
“The damage that has been done between clubs in the Premier League will be difficult to repair.
“Every suggestion from the six clubs who wanted to join the Super League will now be very hard to get through.
“I must say the biggest paradox in all of this was the English clubs. England voted for Brexit to master their own destiny.
“England has the strongest league in the world. By signing these documents, they were destroying the Premier League. Unbelievable,” he told beIN Sport.
