On Thursday Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the pan Igbo socio-cultural organization, has cautioned against the continued detention of the leader of the Indigeneous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The highest Igbo socio-cultural organization envisaged that another round of violence may engulf the southeast if leaders fail to take drastic steps in addressing the situation.

In a statement by its President General, Engr Chidi Ibe, sent to newsmen Ohanaeze Ndigbo tasked the southeast governors to explore the harmonious relationships between them and President Muhammadu Buhari to secure a soft landing for Kanu for the sustainability of the peaceful atmosphere that returned to the region.

The group urged the leaders to look beyond the immediate situation, forgive Kanu for his excesses and secure his release from the hands of the Federal Government.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo further stressed that the deteriorating situation of things in the region and Nigeria at large, does not require blame games but togetherness and cooperation to surmount.

According to the apex Igbo body, “They must forgive and close ranks, this is not the time for blame, accusations and counter-accusations.

“The previous Nnamdi Kanu’s rantings and insults heaped on South East Governors and Igbo Elders were unbearable but the best way to forgive him is to secure his release.

“As for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, we will continue to talk to his teeming supporters to shun any protest and give the South East Governors and other Igbo leaders the opportunity to negotiate his release with President Buhari”.

In the same vein, Catholic Bishops of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province have accused President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of selective administration of justice.

The Bishops lamented that the development has seriously affected Nigerians in all spheres of life and the country’s image in the international community.

The bishops, from Ibadan Archdiocese, Ilorin, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti and Osogbo Dioceses, in a communiqué issued by Rev. Gabriel Abegurin, Chairman, and Rev. Akin Oyejola, Secretary, at the end of their meeting at the Domus Pacis Pastoral Institute, Igoba in Akure, lamented that the current wave of insecurity in the country is an indication that the Federal Government has woefully failed to punish the criminal elements killing Nigerians.
