Welcome to another Legislative Day in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji led Principal Officers into the hallowed chamber.

Hon Thomas A.C. Nkoro, Member representing Obingwa West State Constituency led the opening prayer.

The Abia State House of Assembly commenced plenary after the adoption of Votes and Proceedings of Thursday, 7th October, 2021.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Speaker read out an invitation from Hon Abraham Oba, Member representing Aba Central State Constituency inviting Members to the traditional & church wedding of his daughter slated for the 28th and 29th of December, 2021, respectively.

MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Francis Uchendu brought to the House a Matter of Urgent Public Importance concerning an intra communal crisis in Okono Aku which has truncated the existing peace in the area. The Deputy Speaker said there have been heavy casualties since the crisis started which had also led to loss of lives and destruction of properties.

He therefore prayed the House to recommend as follows.

1. That the House investigate the crisis with a view to bringing lasting peace in the area

2. That the Army Commander in 14 Brigade, Ohafia, put a standby unit in the area to avert further crisis in the community.

After contributions from Members, the Speaker said the House adopts the recommendations made by the Deputy Speaker.

The Speaker also announced that the House Committee on Boundary Matters should, as a matter of urgency, investigate the communal crisis in the locality and submit its report to the House in two weeks.

CONFIRMATION OF THE SCREENED COMMISSIONER NOMINEES

The Speaker announced that the Honourable Members painstakingly screened Commissioner Nominees and Members of the Local Government Service Commission and Civil Service Commission sent to the House by the Governor.

Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji read out the names of the commissioner nominees screened, Members of the Local Government Service Commission and Civil Service Commission as follows:

The Speaker also announced that the absent commissioner nominee should make himself available to the screening committee on Friday, 15th October, 2021.

Finally the Speaker requested the Clerk of the House to forward the names of the successfully screened commissioner nominees and the members of the Local Government Service Commission and Civil Service Commission to the Executive Arm.

Other items on the Order Paper were deferred to be considered on another Legislative Day.

ADJOURNMENT

Hon Solomon Akpulonu, Majority Leader of the House, moved that plenary be adjourned to another Legislative Day.

The Minority Leader, Hon Chijioke Chukwu seconded the motion.

Plenary was therefore adjourned to Monday, 1st November, 2021.
