A controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on the Federal Government to build schools for bandits.
Gumi said the billions of Naira government spends on ammunition should be used to build schools for bandits.
He disclosed that most bandits he spoke to are ready to lay down their arms and embrace education.
Gumi spoke at the Uthman Dan Fodio Centre at Kagarko Grazing Reserve Kohoto Village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, yesterday.
The Islamic scholar stressed that education is the best approach towards preventing Fulani herdsmen from involving themselves in insecurity.
According to Gumi: “Instead of spending billions on hardware, spend it on schools. I have spoken to lots of them, they have agreed to lay down their weapons and embrace education.
“The herdsmen take cattle for grazing in the morning, come back and study in the evening. Before then, we would run primary and secondary schools at intervals.
“We have a hospital also at the centre as well as an economic booster on showing them how to feed their animals.
“If we can replicate this everywhere, Nigeria will be in peace.”
