Wife of the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Dr Mrs Onyinyechi Orji earlier today secured the release of some inmates who could not pay court-imposed fines as an option to their incarceration at the Afara Correctional Centre, Umuahia.
While commending officers and men of the Service for their efforts in helping to reform the inmates, Dr Orji said even though the inmates were paying for their infractions on society, they should not think that the society has forgotten then as they still have the opportunity of becoming better citizens. She thereafter secured the release of 6 of the inmates who had fines imposed on them by the courts as an option to incarceration but could not meet up with the requirements due to financial constraints on their part and that of their family members. She also gave some sums to the freed inmates as transport fare to their respective destinations.
The freed inmates were elated, expressed their gratitude and prayed for the wife of the Speaker and her family.
Dr Mrs Onyinyechi Orji was represented by the Wife of the Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency Barr Mrs Iheoma Uzosike who led other members of the delegation.
