Abia State House of Assembly Plenary for Tuesday, 22nd February, 2022

Welcome to another Legislative Day in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji led Principal Officers into the hallowed chamber.

Hon Godwin Adiele, Member representing Ukwa West State Constituency led the opening prayer.

The Abia State House of Assembly commenced plenary after the adoption of Votes and Proceedings of Monday, 7th February, 2022.

CORRESPONDENCE

The Speaker read out an invitation letter from the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Francis Uchendu inviting the Honorable Members to the Thanksgiving and Handover of Christ the King Church Auditorium built by him, the event is slated to hold at Christ the King Church Auditorium Elu Ohafia on Saturday 26th February, 2022 by 10am.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Speaker announced to the House that the Members of Abia State Judiciary Service Commission have been successfully screened by the House.

The Abia State Judiciary Service Commission Members are :

1. Barr Henry Balogu
2. Mr Anagho Kalu
3. Mrs Joy Nwakanma
4. Mr Clement Ugorji
5. Greg Chikezie – Secretary.

The Speaker requested the Clerk of the House to write a letter to the Governor and inform him about the screening of the Members.

MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

Hon Paul Taribo, Deputy Majority Leader and Member representing Ukwa East State Constituency brought a matter of urgent public importance to the House, he said some Principal Officers of the House have not performed very well and have not lived up to their expectations.

He urged the Speaker to look into the activities of the Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker and approve votes for their removal.

After contributions from Hon Chijioke Chukwu, Hon Obinna Ichita, Hon Okey Igwe, Hon Thomas A.C. Nkoro, Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu and Hon Munachim Alozie, which resulted in a rowdy session, the Speaker posited that the Honorable Member who brought up the matter of urgent public importance did not give specific reasons and the offence of the principal officers in question.

At that point, the Speaker adjourned plenary indefinitely.
