On Tuesday a group, Ebonyi Democrats, has called on the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi to come clean on his rumoured Senatorial ambition.

It said the advice had become necessary in view of confusion such ambition was generating within the polity.

It was reported that Umahi is one of the South-East politicians who purchased the All Progressives Congress, APC, N100 million presidential forms.

However, there are claims that he could be settling for the Senatorial ticket of his party.

There is also a belief in many quarters that some other presidential aspirants from the South-East are angling for the Vice President position or other lesser offices.

Kelechi Nwaevo Cornelius, Chairman of Ebonyi Democrats, told journalists on Tuesday that any form of unseriousness on the part of presidential aspirants from the South-East would have a spiral effect on the desire of the Igbos to produce the next President.

The group wondered whether some of the aspirants picked the presidential form to whittle down the South-East chances in the race.

He said, “we are becoming worried over the numerous reports, without a robust refutation from the necessary quarters, alleging that Governor Umahi had also picked the forms for Senate, while also contesting for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“If this is true, how would they take Ndigbo seriously in our bid to produce Buhari’s successor? How can a Governor engage in a hide and seek game, seeking two positions, doesn’t the Electoral Act naturally frown upon it? So, he should speak up and douse the tension.”

The group urged Umahi to focus on his presidential ambition, “as a double-speak could be tantamount to reducing the chances of Ndigbo producing a president of Igbo extraction.

“As a matter of fact, Umahi should dissociate himself from such ambition.”

“We are also calling on other presidential aspirants from the South-East not to trade-off the collective interest of Ndigbo.

“We shall be ready to openly campaign against such persons,” it warned.
