The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, led by Commandant Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun today said it has arrested over 192 suspected vandals as well as recovered 52 tankers, 11 articulated trucks, Toyota Sequoia jeeps, Sienna bus, mini buses, saloon cars, and a 50mm diameter hose, all used in the illegal trade in petroleum product, crude oil theft, and pipeline vandalism.
The command made the revelation in a statement signed by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Dsc Emeka Peters, and made available to newsmen.
The NSCDC also called on the judiciary to attend to all its cases promptly in order to speed up the trials and prosecutions of suspected crude oil thieves brought before the court.
According to the NSCDC image maker, “That if these suspects are being sentenced to jail regularly and timely, it will serve as a deterrent to others not to take to crime.”
The NSCDC also disclosed that it would perform excellently well if the corps is well equipped and necessary logistics were adequately provided in order to be able to crush the vandals carrying sophisticated weapons.
