The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and PDP flagbearer for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has said that he will continue to promote the spirit of brotherhood, unity and peace among all the clans that make up the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency and beyond, saying this is the only way people of the area can make true progress and be even more prosperous.

The Speaker stated this yesterday after he was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Akaraka Abia (The Destiny of Abia) by the Ohuhu Traditional Rulers Forum led by its Chairman, HRH Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, at Ekeokwuru Umule na Umunso community, Ohuhu, Umuahua North LGA during the occasion of the clan’s Iwa Ji Festival.

He stressed that he has never allowed clannish considerations to affect his person and work because of his belief that all people are created equal and that lifting each other must not be based on primordial sentiments but on the fact that humanity is a community of people created by one God.

While conferring the title on the Speaker, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu on behalf of other traditional rulers of the clan highlighted the Speaker’s numerous achievements which he said made him to be more than qualified for the exalted title. Among such achievements he mentioned are the several mini-stadiums including the one in the land being sponsored by the Speaker; scholarship to indigent students across constituencies, substantial and sustainable empowerment of youths and women across all interests, electrification projects among others. He prayed God to grant the Speaker long life and the enablement to actualise his immediate and other political ambitions.

Other recipients of chieftaincy titles from the traditional rulers are a former minister of defence (state) and PDP flagbearer for Abia Central Senatorial District, Col Austin Akobundu, rtd (Apu Ukwu) and Dr Alex Otti (Enyioha).

The Speaker was accompanied to the event by members of his campaign council led by the Director-General, Pastor Emeka Inyama, friends and well wishers.
