Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji was earlier today at St William’s Memorial Secondary School, Afugiri, venue of the “2022 August Home Coming Meeting” of the Afugiri Federated Union (Women’s Wing) themed: “Our Year Of Rehoboth” (Gen 26:22).

In her address, President-General of the Union, Rev. Evang. Megwara Mary Ahudiya Nkemdirim welcomed the Speaker alongside all the guests present and thanked God for making the day possible despite challenges encountered.

She called on their special guests to come to their aid by supporting them in rehabilitating their comatose oil mill and the building thereof.

She also urged the women to ensure that they take advantage of their numbers to enthrone credible leaders by performing their civic responsibilities as the 2023 general elections approach.

In his response, the Speaker thanked the women for their unity in organising the event, saying it shows the virtues inherent in the Afugiri woman. He promised the people that the mini stadium he embarked upon at the venue of the meeting will be completed, fitted with seats and streetlights so that the women will hold their next August Meeting in the stadium’s stands rather than setting up canopies, and that sports stars will energe from the mini-stadium.

He said the stadium will be named after the first Premier of Old Eastern Nigeria, Late Dr M.I. Okpara who hailed from the clan, in the midst of array of other names eminently qualified for such gesture.

Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji reiterated that he will always answer the call of Ohuhu people anytime they beckon on him as he is one one of them. He further said more progress for Ohuhu people will come with the opening and construction of more roads among other infrastructure for them and that this can only be possible when credible leaders like his humble self emerge on the forthcoming exercise.

The Speaker said the era of propaganda and political mischief is gone and that those who intend representing the people must be able to tell them as a matter of fact what they have done for the people and what they intend to do for them.

On the request of the women to the guests for the reactivation of their dilapidated oil mill, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji promised to help them reconstruct their oil mill especially because their request was business-oriented.

Other guests that attended the event include the immediate past National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party and its flagbearer for Abia Central Senatorial District at the forthcoming 2023 general elections, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd), a former Member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Max Ndukwe Adindu, a former TC Chairman of Umuahia North LGA, Chief Lucky Akabuike, members of the clergy, traditional rulers, party candidates etc.
