Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in this year’s elections, has promised to make the North the jewel of the country.
In a rally of a mammoth crowd as well as town hall meetings of women and youths in Gombe State, Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmad, noted that with a proper tapping of the vast arable land in the North, the untapped resources would make Nigeria a production country and not consumption one.
The LP presidential candidate stated that by turning the vast land in the country into its gold and oil, the country’s rebirth would be achievable.
According to Obi, the vast arable land of the North is a new vista that must be opened to serve Nigeria and Africa.
He believed that the country’s foreign exchange earnings could be increased when goods are exported to earn revenue to pull the people out of poverty with the agricultural potential in the North.
He assured that he and his running mate have the vigour, and the ability to do whatever they are promising, adding that they have clear records of achievements in public and private places; as such, their goals for the country are achievable.
He promised that if elected, his government would invest heavily in education and healthcare, saying that the two are needed to develop and tap the potential of human capital for the growth and development of Nigeria.
Obi assured the women that their children must go back to school as he and Datti would do everything possible to secure the country and the people, stressing that the people would live well again.
He explained, “Nigerians want security, we cannot do anything unless we have a secure Nigeria. Nigerian children must not be out of school.”
Datti Baba Ahmed, the presidential running mate and Mr Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the party and other party stakeholders, stated that if elected, the party team would create a new conducive environment and a new Nigeria.
