This is against the backdrop of insinuations in some quarters that students and Intending students of school of nursing in Abia State won’t be sitting for he exam over the expected conversation of the school to a College of Nursing.
A source at the Ministry of Health who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the issue said while the Ministry were admitting students, those who are already students will still sit for their PTS examination after six months as the processes leading to the conversation of the school to a college of nursing was on course.
“Yes I can confirm that the nursing students will take their usual Preliminary Training Session examination known as PTS on completion of six months of their Study”
“The school will continue to admit students because failure to do that may lead to it’s closure by the Nursing council of Nigeria”
“Parents and guardians should discard any rumour from agents of bad news against the nursing school as the Abia State School of Nursing remains one of the best” the source said.
It will be recalled that the 7th Abia State House of Assembly had passed the House of Assembly Bill 59( ABIA State College of Nursing and Sciences Law) in compliance with the directives from the National Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
It was further gathered that the Director of Nursing Services and other Principal Officers are working round the clock to ensure that all necessary requirements left to achieve the feat is completed.
It is not yet clear the efforts made so far by the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti to see to the realization but more details available to us shows that a small support from the state government will be enough to complete all the processes.
