—Says Landlords are throwing Students Properties out—

The Student Union Government(SUG) President of Abia State University Uturu Chidiri Abia has called on Government to intervene over what he decried as unnecessary increment of lodge fees by Landlords in Uturu and its environs.

Speaking on Monday via Radio program on Family Love Fm Umuahia, the student leader maintained that lodges are cheaper in Umudike where the Micheal Okpara University is located than Uturu where ABSU is located.

“What i really want Abians to know about accomodation for students in Uturu , is the unnecessary increment of lodge rent by lodge owners and caretakers.
My students are littered on the streets of Uturu. Their rooms are locked, Why? this is against the contractual agreement they entered for tenancy.”

“There is no Nepa light in Uturu.. I beseech on the State Government and leaders, especially our, representatives from Abia North . We need this to be looked into. This is our only State University”

“Lodges with poor facilities (Self con) pay as much as 250, 300, 400, thousand naira. This is unlike Michael Okpara University that is in the city of the state”

“There’s a lodge as Pentagon that has asked their tenants to evacuate the premises 2 days ago, for renovation. This is impromptu, and he’s planning to effect it by January. This is really against tenancy agreement. Where do they want the students to go to so suddenly? “

“I have my evidences with me. These is unnecessary and impromptu hike in prices of lodge,Students are threatened to be thrown out, We really need help”

“We know that Landed properties are expensive everywhere,Building materials are expensive everywhere, but then places like Mouau (campus) has a very flat rate on accomodations”

“I wouldn’t want students to sojourn to riots or blood shed. I am not a weak President”he concluded.
