• As Assembly screens, confirm nine commissioner nominees

Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has revealed that there are still cracks in the relationship between the legislative and executive arms of government in the state, despite implementation of the Presidential Peace Pact by the executive.

Amaewhule, while commenting on the relationship between the state Assembly and Government House, condemned, in strong terms, the recalcitrant and discourteous behaviour of Government House staff towards the Assembly.

He made this known, yesterday, at the 92nd legislative sitting, after lawmakers screened and confirmed the nomination of Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, Dr. Jacobson Nbina, Dr. Gift Worlu, Inimefien Aguma, Chukwuemeka Woke, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, Dr. Dakorinama Kelly-George, Isaac Kamalu and Ben Chioma as commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council.

This was sequel to a letter read on the floor of the House, which was forwarded to the House by the Governor Siminialayi Fubara, praying the House to screen and confirm the nominees, pursuant to Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Amaewhule, who seemed displeased with some Government House officials, warned that if such factiousness and spite continues, the Assembly would cease to receive correspondence from the governor.
