The Labour Party, LP’s National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah, has charged Barrister Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, of participating in anti-party activities.
The accusation was made by the LP treasurer on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
The announcement follows her demand that Abure provide an accounting of party finances totaling more than N3.5 billion, which were raised via the sale of forms and other sources during a news conference on Monday in Abuja, in anticipation of the general elections of 2023.
Oparah further claimed that Abure was impeding her ability to carry out the constitutionally mandated duty of managing the party’s finances.
Dismissing a claim made by the Labour Party that she was receiving funding from non-party sources, Oparah stuck to her original stance, declaring, “They are masters at disseminating wrong information.”
According to the treasurer, Abure has forged a partnership and held discussions with the Edo State government of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.
She said: “I want to state the fact that they are masters at disseminating wrong information. What do I mean by that? When issues like these are being played out, the right thing to be done is to carry out an investigation. And I am speaking from the place of strength, asking that the right thing should be done.
“Now, they are always quick to accuse someone of being sponsored, especially from the opposition party. I want to State it clearly here that if there’s anybody that has any alliance with the opposition, it’s the National Chairman of the Labour Party. Let him come out and say he hasn’t been in talks with the government of Edo State.”
