Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has refuted the assertion made by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), that spiritual issues are the root of Nigeria’s problems.

In response to the cleric’s assertion, Onuesoke emphasized that the nation’s “economic hardship” could not be solved by prayer.

In a conversation with a newsmen correspondent in Warri, Delta State, Onuesoke made the claim.

Onuesoke, an environmentalist, added, “Only a planned system with good governance can solve the economic problems in the nation.”

He emphasized that political solutions, not prayers, are what Nigeria needs to overcome its current problems.

The leader of the Delta PDP pleaded on President Bola Tinubu to wake up and save Nigerians from extreme poverty, hyperinflation, and starvation.

Onuesoke’s response follows human rights attorney Malcom Omirhobo’s criticism of the cleric on the same matter.

The lawyer had made the argument that political figures, including as Tinubu and the governors, were chosen to improve Nigeria, not to turn to prayer for help.

“Tinubu and governors are mandated to fix Nigeria, not to resort to prayers as a substitute for governance.”

Adeboye was warned by Omirhobo not to mislead the public by blaming Nigeria’s problems on spiritual issues.

He contended that if prayer was the answer, then Adeboye’s fasting and prayers would have taken care of the problems facing the country long ago.

“Our nation’s problems are rooted in political inadequacies, not spiritual deficiencies. It is time to confront reality and demand accountable governance, rather than turning to prayers as a panacea,” the lawyer said.

Recall that Adeboye, who was welcomed by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani on Sunday, had advised Nigerians to turn to prayer and fasting, highlighting the necessity of spiritual intervention to alleviate the country’s economic woes.

He said , “It has become more and more clearer (sic) to us that the problem our nation is facing is more than political. Our problems will require a bit of spiritual solution.

“Then we found out that when you have problems that are beyond human ability to solve, you call on the Almighty. The reason we call Him Almighty is because He has the power to solve all problems.”
