The state chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Party (NLC) have been instructed to picket LP secretariats all over the nation.

The order was issued yesterday during a meeting of the chairs of the political commission and state councils for the NLC.

They issued this command in response to what they deemed to be Julius Abure, the LP’s national chairman, and his financial mismanagement in calling for the party to conduct its national convention.

The NLC Political Commission, represented by its chairperson, Titus Amba, and secretary, Chris Uyot, signed a statement urging professionals, traders, students, and civic society “to ensure that the picketing and mobilization are successfully executed.”

The statement reads: “We bring you fraternal greetings from the Nigeria Labour Congress. Sequel to a meeting of the NLC National Political Commission and the leadership of the NLC state Councils and Political Committees which took place virtually on the 19th of March 2024, it was resolved as follows:

“That given the intransigence of the National Chairman of the Labour Party to unilaterally hold a National Convention of the Labour Party, financial rascality and contempt for the leadership of the NLC, the NLC state Councils and state political Committees should mobilise workers to picket all the state secretariat of the Labour Party, scheduled for Wednesday, 20th March 2024.

“In view of the soon to be held all-inclusive national convention of the Labour Party, the NLC state councils and the NLC Political Committees should immediately embark on a nationwide mobilization of workers to join the NLC Political Commission and the Labour Party.”

This is in line with NLC’s assertion that it owns the Labour Party, emphasizing that Abure disregarded a court ruling regarding the party’s ownership.

The NLC Political Commission had described Abure as a “drowning wannabe politricstar.”
