Rumors concerning Nasir El-Rufai’s future political aspirations have been fueled by his meeting with a senior Social Democratic Party official once more. El-Rufai is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former governor of Kaduna State.
El-Rufai, SDP chairman Shehu Musa Gabam, and other party leaders were reportedly spotted at Senator Abubakar Gada’s Abuja home, according to Daily Trust.
Senator Nazif Suleiman, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Bauchi State, and Senator Teslim Folarin, the APC’s 2023 contender for governor of Oyo State, were also reportedly there.
The meeting at Gada’s apartment in Abuja on Sunday night follows El-Rufai’s hosting of an iftar for Ramadan at his Abuja mansion, where guests included Shehu Musa Gabam, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, a prominent member of the APC, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
El-Rufai also stopped by the SDP secretariat in Gabam.
Social media users’ reactions to the images from these excursions were mixed, with many guessing that El-Rufai will run for president in 2027.
El Rufai’s communications advisor, Muyiwa Adekeye, refuted reports that the visits had any political intent.
Adekeye emphasized that human ties may exist independently of political commitments, calling the suspicions nothing more than a “unhealthy obsession with politics.”
