If Manchester United qualifies, UEFA will let them compete in the Europa League even though Sir Jim Ratcliffe still owns Nice.
Teams owned by the same owners will not be permitted to compete in the same competitions, per UEFA’s new regulations.
Given that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new co-owner, owns a controlling stake in Nice in Ligue 1, United would have been ineligible to participate in the Europa League the following season under these regulations.
In the event that Erik ten Hag’s team finishes sixth in the Premier League, they will, together with Nice, qualify for the Europa League.
Given that Nice is ranked better in their league than the Red Devils, they would have been eligible to participate in the competition in this scenario.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Theodore Theodoridis, the general secretary of UEFA, attended United’s league match against West Ham on February 4 at Old Trafford.
Theodoridis reportedly spoke with the English club about the situation after the game and gave them his word that it would be rectified.
