Security personnel and militants engaged in a gunfight in Anambra on Tuesday that resulted in at least five fatalities and numerous injuries.
In Aguluezechukwu, Aguata council area, and Ogboji, Orumba South council area, respectively, the Anambra Joint Security Force, JSF, raided two gunmen’s camps, causing the incident.
Reportedly, the security personnel retrieved a number of items during their operation, including charms, police uniforms, and locally made rocket launchers.
Despite not disclosing the exact number of casualties, Anambra police spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu revealed that four militants and one police officer lost their lives in the gunfight.
The Police Command in Awka issued a statement on Wednesday, stating that the search for the gunmen had been expanded to include the regions of Obofia Forest, Aguluezechukwu, and Ogboji.
