Kayode Ajulo, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Ondo State, has declared that the funds of the state government will not be utilized to compensate his 273 assistants.

This came after he announced the appointments and faced criticism.

Ajulo emphasized that some of the roles were honorary and called the response that followed the appointment a “unfortunate misconception of issues.”

A few days earlier, the Attorney-General, who selected the advisers, declared that the assistants would collaborate closely with him to improve the state’s access to what he called moral legal services. Outrage as Odonto Attorney General Appoints 273 Advisers – Daily Post, 2024

In addition, he emphasized that they will be categorized as technical and honorary advisers, stating that they are made up of junior and professional attorneys.

Ajulo noted that the majority of the aides are well-known and skilled attorneys and jurists, but added that they will be giving the state their share out of kindness.

“Most of these designations are purely honorary, indicating that the lawyers do not have any right to receive financial remuneration or employment advantages from the Ondo State government.

“Most of the lawyers who have been appointed are renowned, trusted, and experienced lawyers and jurists who have willingly decided to contribute their services to Ondo State as a gesture of goodwill, and any compensation they receive will not be provided by the Ondo State Government,” he said.
