The government of Abia State claims to have finished its preparations to launch the PCS, or pension contributory program, for public employees.

Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, made this revelation on Tuesday following the state Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Umuahia.

Seniors need to feel like they belong, according to Kanu.

He said that, similar to state governmental personnel, all pensioners were to receive their payments on the 28th of each month, per a direction from the government.

Kanu continued by saying that the government had ordered retirees to receive their entire monthly pension coming ahead rather than only half of it as was customary in the past.

He said that the Ministry of Finance had established a support center to handle problems resulting from the payment of pension arrears, including people whose names were omitted, among other things.

“The state government has concluded plans to introduce a contributory pension scheme for Abia civil servants,” Kanu said.

“The plans for establishing the scheme have gone very far and very soon we would start the cutover to a contributory pension scheme.”
