The meeting that was originally set for Monday has been rescheduled by the Federal Government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.
The purpose of the gathering was to discuss any outstanding issues impeding the advancement of Nigerian institutions.
In a recent development, nevertheless, ASUU President Professor Emmanuel Osodeke informed reporters on Monday that the meeting will not take place as previously scheduled by Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman.
The meeting is now scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, even though there was no explanation provided for the postponement.
Recalls that a few days ago, ASUU gave the Federal Government a 21-day notice of strike over a number of unresolved issues, including the emergency revitalisation fund of public universities, the payment of unpaid earned academic allowances, and the release of delayed salaries, arrears for promotions, and member deductions from third parties.
Stopping unlawful recruitment, expanding public universities and abusing its laws, rules, and procedures, removing universities from the Treasury Single Account, and new IPPIS in relation to promoting university autonomy are among the other challenges.
