Chief H. N. Duroha of Duroha & Associates, acting on behalf of Rt. Hon. Obinna Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, has issued a formal demand for a public apology and retraction of defamatory statements made against the lawmaker.
The demand, dated 23rd September 2024, was directed to Mr. Chiemenzuo Nelcinne Uluocha, a staff member of Melcinne Comprehensive Secondary School in Umuegwuavo Village, Umuawa Alocha, Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA and YPP Chairman Abia State.
According to the letter, the defamatory remarks were made during an address to a large gathering at the Umuawa Alocha Civic Centre Hall on 19th September 2024.
Mr. Uluocha is accused of falsely labeling Hon. Aguocha as a “fraud” and a “cheat” who allegedly misappropriated palliatives and funds meant for his constituency. These statements, which were reportedly recorded and have since gone viral, are said to have incited anger against the lawmaker.
The legal team has requested that Mr. Uluocha fulfill the following conditions within 14 days:
– Retract the defamatory statements publicly, including in four national newspapers.
– Pay reasonable damages for libel to Hon. Aguocha.
– Call a meeting within Hon. Aguocha’s constituency to retract the accusations in front of his constituents.
Failure to comply with these demands may result in legal action and a formal complaint to the police, as outlined in the letter.
