Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has revealed a purported plot by a Nigerian oil cabal and international oil companies (IOCs) to sabotage the operations of private refineries such as Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Adeboye urged Nigerians to pray for divine intervention against the acts of dishonest oil marketers who are determined to cause misery for the people during his speech at the Abuja Special Holy Ghost service in November 2024.
Following earlier instances of sabotage that affected Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries, the cleric claimed that oil marketers are making a concerted effort to impede the refinery’s operations.
After numerous failed attempts to revitalize the nation’s four public refineries, which had wasted billions of Naira with little effect, Pastor Adeboye reminded the congregation that God was the one who prompted Aliko Dangote to build a refinery.
Even though Nigeria is a major producer of crude oil, he expressed concern over the country’s ongoing reliance on fuel imports.
“Are we under a curse?” he asked. “We have four refineries, we poured all kinds of money into them, none of them is working.
“But God raised someone to build a refinery that works. He is not my relative; he is not from my village. He is not even a Christian, but he is a Nigerian who says, ‘Why should my people suffer when I have the means to build a refinery that can work?’ Now he is refining petrol, and some people want to stop him from selling it, so they can keep importing.”
According to reports, Dangote Refinery and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, or IPMAN, have negotiated a deal for the direct sale of gasoline to the association’s members.
Nigerians continue to purchase gasoline at NNPC stations and other retail locations for N1060 and N1200.
