The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been overrun by Nigerian police personnel.
A special squad from the Rivers State Police Command’s tactical unit arrived on the scene and used a patrol van to block a portion of the road and the secretariat’s main entrance.
No one is allowed to enter the premises because of the police’s restricted access.
Due to the blockade’s disruption of traffic, drivers are now only able to use one lane on the congested Aba Road.
The development comes as a new leadership in Rivers State’s PDP emerged.
Following the dismissal of Aaron Chukwuemeka and his executive committee by the Rivers State High Court, Nname Robinson Ewor was named Acting Chairman.
Ewor told party members that Chukwuemeka may still serve as the chairman of the Grassroots Development Initiative, or GDI, but that he is no longer acknowledged as the PDP State Chairman.
By virtue of his role as governor, he reiterated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara continues to lead the PDP in the state.
Additionally, Ewor asked the people to ignore any assertions that the party’s head in Rivers State is former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
