The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, hosted Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and National President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area today Friday 17th January 2025.
During her visit, Dr. Mrs. Egbetokun commended Governor Otti’s administration for its strides in infrastructure development and the welfare of Abia citizens. She highlighted POWA’s commitment to supporting police families through community-based initiatives and appealed for the state’s support in establishing a skill acquisition center for women in the police community.
“Your Administration has made remarkable progress by enhancing infrastructure and ensuring the welfare of the citizens of Abia State “
“The Police officers wives Associations thrives to support police families through community based initiatives, We look forward to your continued partnership as we work together to ensuring a secured Abia State”
“We seek your kind gesture in procuring land for the establishment of a skill acquisition center for our women,” she stated, expressing appreciation for the governor’s support for police families in Abia State.
Governor Otti, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the visit and acknowledged the role of the police and other security forces in maintaining peace and security in Abia State. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to empowering citizens, emphasizing skill development over temporary aid.
“Our people are very hospitable. By the grace of God the work of your husband and other members of the security force has made us to enjoy relative peace, I say relative because there is no where there is absolute peace”
“I want to also note that this visit is coming in the heels of the armed forces Remembrance Day we just celebrated few days ago, it is heartwarming that the fallen heroes of the Police Force are not forgotten “
“In line with our policy to support empowerment, I am pleased to approve the establishment of a skill acquisition center for POWA,” the governor declared. He invited POWA to choose a location in Aba, Umuahia, or Ohafia for the center, assuring them of government support.
The meeting was attended by top officials, including Mrs. Hajiya Dasuki, wife of the Deputy Inspector General of Police(FID) ; Mrs. Patricia Yusuf, wife of AIG Zone 9 Umuahia, and other POWA members. Senior police officers, including AIG Zone 9, AIG Suleiman A. Yusuf, and the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, also accompanied the delegation.
The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts between Governor Otti and Dr. Mrs. Egbetokun, symbolizing mutual respect and partnership in fostering development and security in the state.
