David Raya might not be available for Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Manchester City, according to Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal.
Raya was not there as the Gunners defeated Girona 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
After joining Arsenal on a season-long loan from Bournemouth, Neto made his debut in the Spaniard’s absence.
Girona took the lead through Arnaut Danjuma in the 28th minute, and Neto was at fault.
But with a penalty kick from Jorginho in the 38th minute and a spectacular goal from teenager Ethan Nwaneri, Arsenal rallied.
Raya’s injury was not specifically disclosed by Arteta, but he did tell media following the game: “He certainly could not play, and he’s injured, and that’s it. We’ll see how it improves.”
Arteta responded, “Yes, that’s why he’s here, to do that job, and he’s done it for 20-odd years in his career,” when asked if Neto could deputize for a longer duration.
“I’m very happy, first of all, that he played. It’s been seven months, eight months almost, since he played his last competitive match, and it’s not easy, so I’m very happy that he played and we won again.”
