The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP, His Excellency, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagun, today, during a Northeast Caucus meeting held in Bauchi State, assured PDP leaders present that the party remains the best in the country.
Damagun who was highly delighted over the high quality performance and good governance of the PDP governors in the zone and the country, made it clear that PDP remains the party to beat.
According to the Acting National Chairman, ” PDP is a party that has stood the test of time and still standing. As an indomitable and experienced political party, PDP has mastered its onion adequately as this has empowered us to surmount all hurdles and other associated vagaries. No doubt this is what makes PDP a democratic party”.
During the meeting, the Northeast Caucus and stakeholders were encouraged not to deter in their patriotic quest to unite PDP in the zone. Damagun urged leaders to bury their differences and work together to advance the cause of PDP in the zone.
“I want to call on our leader to sheath swords, stop all the infractions and division, tame personal interest, just as I advised during Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting yesterday,” Damagun reminded the Caucus.
He emphasized that a leader should be cohesive, and able to muster the capacity to always bring people together and not divide them.
Damagun harped on unity as the most effective panacea for PDP to thrive, going forward. He quite acknowledged that interest is paramount in politics, but that we can only realize interest when the vehicle is strong. Vehicle here meaning our party PDP.
Therefore, all hands must be on deck to make PDP stronger to enable us achieve our interest. We can only guarantee our interest in politics when the vehicle – the political party can take us to the destination.
PDP is a strong horse; that’s why we have refused to go under. As a strong horse, we are tested, trusted, and experienced political party.
Ambassador Damagun made it clear that he cannot descend to the dictates of any individual, and reminded the Northeast Caucus that nobody is above the party, hence he is not ready to do any personal bidding from anybody.
Damagun in his words, “We will give you all the accolades and support, but when you start to derail, we’ll part ways with you”.
The Acting National Chairman re-echoed his commitment that PDP is bigger than any individual, therefore nobody can hijack the party. This I assure you.
Again, Damagun took time to commend the oratory prowess of the Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, and thanked him immensely for being a wonderful host.
Equally, enthused that the Northeast is lucky to have her leaders as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and the PDP National Chairman. He hinted that the enormous size and diversity of the Northeast should be a source of strength and unity to the zone.
The Acting National Chairman said that PDP performed more than other political parties in the Northeast zone during 2023 general elections, but was denied victory, especially in Borno State. According to him, “We know what happened”.
Therefore, Damagun advised the meeting to continue to put up the outstanding performance in the zone. “We’ll leverage the energy of our diversity to shape the beautiful future that we yearn to attain. Our size shows that we’re really a country within a country as we’re blessed with different ethnic groups cohabiting together”, Damagun declared.
While concluding his address, the Acting National Chairman encouraged the leaders to continue to be proud of themselves for being Northeast patriots, and thanked them for coming.
