Errors Stall National Assembly Bill as Tinubu Withholds Assent

A bill to establish the Federal University of Education, Numan, in Adamawa State has been rejected by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu stated that he withheld his consent because of several typographical and drafting problems in the measure in a letter to the House that was read aloud on Tuesday by Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu.

The letter pointed out a number of these mistakes, such as mispronouncing “statute” as “statutes” and “one-third” as “on-third.”

Furthermore, the bill’s section 22 gives the governor, rather than the president, the power to approve the sale of land, which is appropriate for land owned by a university or other Federal Government organization.

In another instance, section 25(4)(b) omits the preposition “of” between “award” and “degree.”
