An emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees, or BoT, and the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, is presently underway.
The purpose of the gathering was to discover long-term answers to the party’s ongoing leadership dilemma.
Among those who have arrived are former Governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, Senator Ben Obi, and Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola; the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; and the Secretary of the BoT, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
The turmoil surrounding the contest for the PDP National Secretary position is the reason for the meeting.
During its BoT meeting last week, Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye got into a brawl at the PDP national secretariat.
The conflict between the two began when Ude-Okoye was chosen by the Southeast branch of the party to succeed Anyanwu when he quit to run for governor of Imo State.
Following a lawsuit, Ude-Okoye was proclaimed the substantive National Secretary by the Court of Appeal in Enugu.
However, Anyanwu asserted that despite the decision, Ude-Okoye lacks the authority to take over.
Anyanwu used his Supreme Court appeal of the decision as justification for preserving the status quo.
