The widely circulated accusations that Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri impregnated Big Brother Naija reality star Nengi have been refuted.
On Monday, rumors went viral on social media that the reality star had just given birth to a child for the governor, who is said to have four wives.
In a series of posts on X, Nengi addressed the rumors by saying, “Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor.”
The rumors are still spreading online in spite of her response.
In a Facebook post on Monday night, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, the Director-General of New Media to the governor, responded to the situation by labeling the story as untrue and pointing out that the reality star had no personal connection to the governor.
Oredipe criticized the use of social media to spread lies, calling the claims the product of the governor’s adversaries trying to divert attention from events commemorating his fifth anniversary.
“Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. What a wicked set of people spreading falsehood on a day the Prosperity Administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor. Nengi has come out on social media to debunk the lies. This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media.”
