Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioned Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other potential contenders on Thursday that there would be “no vacancy” in the presidential residence in 2027.

No one should criticize Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, for declaring that there will be no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027, according to Okechukwu.

The former Voice of Nigeria (VON) Director General told reporters in Abuja that “Atiku and his cohorts in the PDP should be held accountable for their mistaken violation of the rotation convention, which governs the 4th Republic of Nigeria.”

He noted that the “erroneous breach of the rotation convention had divided the PDP irretrievably, albeit producing the Wike masquerade, which cannot be easily wiped off or lashed off the party’s bone marrow.”

According to Okechukwu, it will be challenging for the PDP to maintain its position as the main opposition party in the near future.

The adage “divided we fall” is true, he continued, adding that the PDP will not give in to a second position in a merger like the now-defunct ACN because of the leaders’ greed.

Okechukwu said: “The erroneous breach of the rotation convention, a ligament holding our fledgling democracy together in the 2023 presidential election, is the PDP’s biggest miscalculation.”

“The rotation fire is raging and may not be quenched before 2027. The ugly outcome scenario sounds like the local clincher of the advisory song of the birds to the Reverend Father during Mass, that the big men seated in the altar front row are all the same character.”

Because of Nigeria’s economic difficulties, he also discouraged people who opposed Tinubu from seeking a second term.

The former DG promised that some of Tinubu’s economic plans will begin to pay off, easing the economic suffering prior to the 2027 presidential election.

The president has set the stage for foreign direct investments, he noted.

“The truism is that President Tinubu has done well diplomatically; he is a friend of the West and a friend of the East. This means that he has the support of the international community to cushion the rough economic edges with Foreign Direct Investments and loan-backed projects,” Okechukwu added.
