Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, has declared that he will continue to lead the party in the upcoming general elections in 2027.
Speaking on Arise Television’s “The Morning Show” on Friday, Adebayo expressed his conviction that he will be the party’s presidential candidate in the upcoming election, regardless of the political prominence of lawmakers that defected to the party.
He stated that he is unconcerned by the assertion that prominent lawmakers who are leaving the party could displace him.
Adebayo’s remark comes after Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate former governor of Kaduna State, defected to the party following his resignation and outspoken criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC.
A few lawmakers have been courted by the former FCT minister to join his new party.
Adebayo, however, stated that he is not intimidated or scared by the defectors and that all of the party members are aware that he will run for office again.
“Let us understand something. I don’t worry about that; everybody who is coming in knows I will run in 2027. Any coward who will feel threatened by people coming to his party cannot be president,” he said.
