The essential business tools, provided by the first lady of the Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, empowered 500 less-privileged women of Rivers State.
With the tools, the women will have their livelihood improved and have increased capacity to contribute to national development.
The items were presented to the women at EUI centre along Abacha Road in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of the State.
It was steered by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in partnership with the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Senator Tinubu was represented by wife of the Administrator of Rivers State, Dr Theresa Ibas.
Items presented to the Rivers women included deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, grinding machines and generators.
Senator Tinubu said the initiative is part of an ongoing intervention to impact 18,500 women across Nigeria.
She explained that the items, if properly utilised will equip Rivers women to build successful businesses and contribute to the prosperity of Nigeria.
Dr Ibas also called on Rivers people to support the efforts of her husband in restoring peace, law and order to the State.
She emphasised that it is the thrust of the mandate given by President Bola Tinubu who appointed him as the Administrator of the State.
In her remark, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said the economic reality in the country demands that women become productively engaged in order to support themselves and their families.
Giving her welcome address, Rivers State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Initiative(RHI), Mrs Tonye Oniyinde-Briggs, said 500 women were carefully selected across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.
The gesture, she noted, will help to unlock the economic potentials of the benefiting women, foster their economic independence, and create sustainable opportunities for growth and prosperity.
