PUO Reports — A Sharia Court sitting in the Fagge ‘Yan Alluna area of Kano State has sentenced a young man, Ahmad Sa’id Dandinshe, to 60 strokes of the cane and a possible six-month prison term after he was found guilty of stealing a ram intended for the Eid al-Adha celebration.
The incident took place in the Dabai area of Gwale Local Government Area, where the defendant was accused of unlawfully entering a private residence and stealing a ram belonging to Maryam Hamza, a member of the community.
During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Zaharaddin Mustafa, told the court that the accused had committed criminal trespass and theft, violations that fall under the Kano State Sharia Penal Code.
When the charges were formally presented, Ahmad Sa’id Dandinshe pleaded guilty.
Presiding over the matter, Ustaz Umar Lawan Abubakar delivered a two-part sentence. The defendant was given six months imprisonment or an option of a ₦15,000 fine along with 30 strokes of cane for criminal trespass. For theft, he was sentenced to an additional six months imprisonment or a ₦15,000 fine, with another 30 strokes of cane.
The court-ordered flogging was administered immediately within the court premises.
The ruling comes as part of ongoing enforcement of Sharia legal codes in Kano State, where offenses such as theft are subject to both custodial sentences and corporal punishment under Islamic law.
