PUO Reports — The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that it has successfully enrolled 120,000,040 Nigerians and legal residents into the National Identity Number (NIN) database, marking a significant milestone in its nationwide digital identity program.

This achievement was disclosed by the Director General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Abuja.

Engr. Coker-Odusote noted that the commission has significantly expanded its infrastructure capacity over the past 24 months in order to enhance service delivery across the country.

“NIMC has continued to expand its infrastructure capacity to serve Nigerians better in the last 24 months,” she stated.

Addressing issues related to operational transparency, the NIMC boss revealed that internal reforms have resulted in a 40 percent reduction in corruption within the agency.

Speaking further, she offered clarity on the recent review of the commission’s service price framework, which has sparked public interest.

“There were some prices that were too much, so what we did was to remove them. There were all sorts of prices over there. People were extorting citizens with outrageous prices,” she said.

Coker-Odusote reiterated that NIN enrolment remains free of charge. However, fees associated with data modifications, such as correcting personal information, have been adjusted upward, while charges for identity verification services were reviewed downward.

“NIN enrolment is free. But if you want to modify your data for any reason, you have to pay more. Some prices were reviewed downwards and others upwards. In terms of verification, the prices were reviewed downwards but upwards in terms of modifications,” she explained.

The price adjustments, which took effect on May 1, 2025, reflect NIMC’s efforts to standardize service charges and eliminate exploitative pricing by third-party operators.

Under the new pricing regime:

  • The fee for date of birth correction was increased from ₦16,340 to ₦28,574.

  • The charge for NIN retrieval using Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) rose from ₦20 to ₦50.

The Commission assured that the price adjustments were made in the public interest and aimed at curbing unauthorized charges while improving service efficiency.

As part of its broader digital transformation drive, NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring every Nigerian and legal resident is enrolled into the national identity ecosystem in a seamless, transparent, and secure manner.
