A suspected explosion on Monday claimed the life of one individual and left another injured near the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja.

Initial reports suggest the blast may have been triggered by an improvised explosive device IED. However, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the actual cause.

According to a report by AIT, a military eyewitness who chose to remain anonymous said the deceased, believed to be a suicide bomber, was killed by an explosive concealed in a rubber container.

Contrarily, military authorities at the scene stated that preliminary findings indicate the explosion may have originated from a phone device rather than an IED.

At the time of filing this report, security and emergency agencies, including personnel from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services DSS, Nigeria Police Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, were still on ground assessing the situation and taking inventory.

Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
