President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong caution to officers of the Nigeria Police Force, urging them to desist from intimidating or abusing the citizens they are entrusted to protect. He emphasized that the police must operate within the bounds of the law and maintain the highest levels of professionalism and accountability.

The President’s remarks were delivered on Wednesday night by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the 2nd Annual Inspector General of Police’s Award and Commendation Ceremony held in Abuja.

“Be reminded that the power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection. It is not for abuse but for service. You must be guided by the highest standards of accountability and professionalism,” the President stated.

“Uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of every citizen, and reject all forms of misconduct and corruption. Only then can we build a police force that is truly respected and trusted by the people it serves,” he added.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force through strategic investments in modern policing infrastructure and officer welfare. He noted that the government would continue to provide advanced equipment, technological support, capacity-building initiatives, and comprehensive welfare schemes to improve performance and morale across all ranks.

“This administration remains steadfast in its commitment to the transformation of the Nigeria Police Force. We understand that modern policing demands modern tools, continuous training, intelligence-led strategies, and community partnership,” he said.

Addressing officers honored at the event, President Tinubu commended their dedication to duty and the values they embody.

“To our award recipients tonight, I congratulate you warmly. You have made the nation proud. You have reminded us of what is possible when duty meets dedication and when service is driven by honour.

“But I urge you, do not rest on your laurels. Let this recognition spur you to even greater heights. Let your example inspire others within the Force to emulate your discipline, your hard work, your professionalism, and your integrity,” the President concluded.

PUO Reports will continue to monitor and report on the ongoing reforms and developments within the Nigeria Police Force.
