President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly brokered a truce in the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, reaching an agreement to reinstate the suspended state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

According to reports from DAILY POST, the breakthrough was achieved during a high-level meeting held late Wednesday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, involving key stakeholders in the dispute.

However, further details obtained by The Cable indicate that Fubara’s reinstatement is subject to four binding conditions, forming part of the negotiated settlement designed to restore political stability in the state.

The reported conditions include:

1. Completion of First Term Only: Governor Fubara will be reinstated to serve out his current four-year tenure but has agreed not to seek re-election in 2027.

2. Control of Local Government Appointments: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will retain the right to nominate all chairpersons across the 23 local government areas in Rivers State.

3. Payment of Lawmakers’ Entitlements: Governor Fubara has committed to settling all outstanding allowances and entitlements owed to the 27 state lawmakers loyal to Wike, who had previously been suspended from the Rivers State House of Assembly.

4. No Impeachment Proceedings: In return, the lawmakers have pledged not to initiate any impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara once he is reinstated.

The agreement marks a significant step in resolving a months-long impasse that has deeply divided political structures in Rivers State and raised concerns about governance and stability in one of Nigeria’s most strategic oil-producing regions.

PUO Reports will continue to provide updates as more details on the implementation of the agreement emerge.
