Two farmers, Nensha Adeor and Kator Gbenge, have sustained life-threatening injuries following an attack by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen in Adeor settlement, located in Ndzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
The assault occurred in the hometown of former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Local sources reported that the incident took place when the victims attempted to prevent the herders from allowing their cattle to graze on and destroy their farmland. The confrontation quickly escalated into violence, as the herdsmen, reportedly wielding machetes, launched a brutal attack on the farmers, inflicting severe bodily injuries.
Medical personnel at the General Hospital in Gbajimba confirmed that both victims are in critical condition and are receiving intensive medical care.
The incident adds to the growing security concerns in the area. Just three days prior, another farmer was abducted by suspected herdsmen in the same locality and remains in captivity. As of the time of this report, there has been no communication from the abductors and no ransom demand has been made.
Residents of the Ndzorov community have expressed deep concern over the increasing threat posed by such attacks. They have called on security agencies and the Benue State Government to urgently intervene and reinforce security measures in the area to safeguard lives and property.
PUO Reports continues to monitor the situation as it develops.
