Describes Him as an Incorruptible Leader and Father Figure

Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has joined millions of Nigerians and global leaders in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died earlier today at the age of 82.

In an emotional tribute from his country home in Uturu, Abia State, Dr. Ogah described the late President as “a disciplined, visionary, and selfless leader who served Nigeria with unwavering commitment.”

“I am deeply pained by the loss of a man I had the honour of serving under—a leader who redefined integrity in public service. President Buhari was not just a statesman, but a father figure to many of us. His love for Nigeria was pure, his vision clear, and his dedication unquestionable,” Dr. Ogah said.

Reflecting on their time in government, Dr. Ogah—who served in President Buhari’s cabinet between 2019 and 2023—praised the late leader’s commitment to reforming Nigeria’s mining and solid minerals sector. He recounted the personal encouragement he received from the former President during challenging moments of policy implementation.

“President Buhari believed strongly in diversifying Nigeria’s economy through the mining sector. I witnessed first-hand how deeply he cared about transforming Nigeria beyond oil. His guidance gave me the courage to pursue reforms that are today yielding visible results,” he recalled.

Dr. Ogah extended his heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigerians at large.

“This is a painful moment for our country, but also a time to reflect on the values he lived by. Let us honour his memory by upholding the principles of discipline, honesty, and national unity. May his soul find eternal rest, and may Nigeria never forget the sacrifices he made for her progress,” he concluded.

Dr. Uche Ogah, a renowned industrialist and political leader, maintained a close working relationship with President Buhari both during and after their time in government.

President Buhari is expected to be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites, with full national honours to follow.
